I've only tried Shea butter on my scalp once. I didn't like the way it felt afterward (although I do use it on my tattoos). I use Nivea Extreme Comfort aftershave on my scalp. It makes the skin feel soft and it has a pleasant fragrance.

I splash on Booster's. It's old time barbershop after shave.

Goes on the face and head and it feels GREAT.

Who sells it?

Boosters can be found at many barbers (not stylists, barbers), beauty supply stores (such as Sally or Toronto Barber and Beauty Supply), shaving supply websites, eBay.

You can find Pinaud aftershaves in many of the same places.

plain witch hazel is good when you want no scent.   Osage Rub is an old timey barbershop type that is GREAT on a hot humid day..it's a blast of menthol cold.   On a day to day basis, when I want something with  mild to moderate scent, I will splash on some bay rum...I've got several different brands of it.

Clubman Pinaud is my choice. An old time scent at an extremely affordable price.

People are always asking me what cologne/after shave I wear.

+1 for Osage Rub. O0

I mix Aloe Gel and Tea Tree Oil with Witch Hazel for irritation. Works for me.

I'll have to try your mix Buddha. I have sensitive skin that tends to get irritated depending on what I use on it.

Does it matter what brands you use?

Dickinson's witch hazel although this is pretty much a generic item. There are a couple other big brands out there but the names escape me at present.
For the aloe I recommend getting a 100% gel from wherever it's available, I don't really know any brand names, I just get the pure stuff. I stick with the gel because it has a slight thickening quality when mixed with the WH.
Also be aware of what kind of tea tree oil you get. Some companies label their product "Tea Tree Oil" even though it's just a liquid with the "essence" (fancy way of saying "smell") of tea tree oil. I usually look for Australian oil, again the company name escapes me (I'm not at home right now). With all of the ingredients make sure you read the labels so you know what you're getting.

I got a bottle of Best Choice Witch Hazel and a bottle of 100% aloe gel. My grocery store doesn't carry tea tree oil, I'll order some off Amazon next week.

Go to a website called iherb. It's an online dealer for supplements, etc. Use my gift code which is YON336 for (I think) $5 off your order. I've ordered the aloe gel and the tea tree oil from them in the past, their prices are better than average and they have good stuff.

I'll have to check that out. Thanks Buddha! First day using the Aloe gel seems to have cleared up the dry spots behind my ears.

I've never had good luck using an aftershave on the dome, it always breaks me out. The only thing that I have found that works for me is Witch Hazel. Thayers seems to work the best for me.

You can get Aloe gel from Walmart for about $4.  Brand is "Fruit of the Earth" and is clear.  Find it in the skin care section, not the stuff with the sun screen and tanning products.

Looks like there are a bunch of clubman pinaud's. Do you have a specific one you like?

I don't know that one. Do a lot of places carry it?

The original, which is simply called "Clubman Pinaud". It is yellow in color and has an old time barbershop scent.
If you have a Sally Beauty Supply near you they usually carry it. You can get a large bottle for about$8. My local Sally's just stopped carrying it so I got a bit smaller bottle of it at Walgreen's for the same $8. Still an amazing value.

FYI:
Walmart carries Tea Tree Oil. It's in the Hair Care section in with the "Ethnic" hair products. (At Walmart, "Ethnic" means "Black Folks Hair". Evidently black folks' hair is different. Who knew? I'm just a dumb ole white boy. I had no idea.)

The body shop at your local shopping mall might carry tree tea oil with all the other body stuff. I use bump defense product line running low so use the 'canned stuff' and some gillette after shave gel works fine for me and body lotion sometimes.

Bay Rum is another old school aftershave.  I love it.

i know i'm a little late to this thread ...

a lot of times when I use headslick, I find that I don't always need a soothing aftershave.  The menthol seems to be enough sooth the skin.  Though, I always use a moisturizer afterwards.

Though, sometimes if i forgot to change blade cartridges and my head gets a little raw, I tend to use taylor of old bond street shaving shop aftershave gel or Game Day mens aftershave because they don't have alcohol.
