Ditto what the others have said.  I'm still fairly new to being SLY but one thing I am learning is that you have to look deep within yourself and determine what it is that you really want.  And like we have all said, it will grow back if you don't like it and it you don't it'll probably just really bother you that you didn't give it a try.

I'm just a couple years older than you Y in 5 but I'm BBC!  (Bald By Choice)  The up side is, if you don't like the SLY look you can grow what you have back!  Looking at your pic, I think the SLY look will look really good on you!   O0

Go for it.  You can always grow it back if you don't like it.  Give it at least a good month though so you can settle into your "new look."  Good luck.

Lance is right, if you do it you have to keep it smooth for at least a month before you can make a good desicion to keep it bald or grow it back...

but you know since you have the idea of a bald head in your head..you will never be happy until you've scraped the dome smooth....that is a fact , my friend!

May I suggest one other thing that I don't see on here. I think that your fathers comment had more to do with himself than you. You losing your hair may refelct on his own aging process and his loss of youth, your growing up and all the changes that have to be made as he ages and you to.  Might be something you explore with him while you go through this process.

I say go for it, I think you will look great, and hope it feels good as mine does. I am new to this and don't regret it at all, only wish I had done it sooner.

But maybe use the big guard and work your way down!!
Maybe the gradual change will work!! It worked with my family!!!
Its a great feeling to not have hair!!!!
