Wow, I didn't know that a judge could go outside the parameters of the law and just come up with a punishment off the top of his head. I mean, there are legal penalties written into criminal law and it was my impression that judges are restricted to those. Otherwise you get into the whole "arbitrary and capricious" thing. Sounds like grounds for appeal.

From the photo, he needs to shave it and will likely like it.

My guess is this was an optin in lue of jail time.  That is how judges get creative.

If we coud just get this on the books in place of fines for traffic violations ...

It is certainly not cruel but it is an unusual punishment. I wonder how they enforce it?  Does he have to report to a probation officer once a week so they can make sure his head is shaved?

It IS an unusual punishment.  But it was an unusual crime too.  How do you punish a grown man for cutting off a woman's ponytail?  The article did go on to say that he is having to attend anger management classes and has resigned from his job at a local school.  He sounds like a borderline psycho, and she is still communicating with him... so we may hear about them again in the near future.

If the judge really wanted to punish him, he would have made him walk around with the  Benjamin button special aka the horseshoe! Right, Red Rover?

Marsh, I don't think I want to up my body temp to 100F so that stuff will tick to my head. I feel pretty yucky when the body temp is 100.  But that is a pretty amazing story.  So what else can you do with a bald head. We should send him an honorary membership in SBG.
