I see a lot of hatred for Nickelback...just curious why?

I can understand why people would dislike Nickelback, but whenever the topic comes up with friends, I'll readily admit I listen to them/have some of their tunes in my library.

Is their music great? No, but it's very catchy and often fun to listen to. Would I rank it next to my albums of Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and Bruce Springsteen? Of course not, but that's not the point.

Part of the problem is that it's become social suicide amongst young people to profess any liking of Nickelback.

It's like how in kindergarten, liking Sesame Street and Barey was okay, but by the time you got to first grade all the boys were too "cool" for that baby stuff and you had to profess to hating Barney and Sesame Street. :-p

I've had friends say "It's uncool to like Nickelback dude, you better drop that." If I run into random strangers and they see me playing Nickelback, I'll be judged for my taste.

So there is a lot of pressure out their to dislike Nickelback.

Which is ironic, because the anti-Nickelback movement is based around the idea that 1) Nickelback sucks and 2) this is the music industry force feeding you bad music.

And just like the music industry, this anti-Nickelback movement is telling you/pressuring you what not to listen to.

At the end of the day, I say to each his own, like what you like. I also loved Creed back in the day. No shame.

And, to actually contribute to the discussion:

Anything by Mumford & Sons basically makes me want to commit suicide. I spent a whole summer working with my ex and our friends and a couple of them were obsessed with Mumford––I cannot imagine what a Mumford concert would be like, I can only imagine it would be depressing.

I enjoy a pretty wide range of music. In addition to mainstream stuff, there's a lot of stuff I listen to that others might find odd. But I can't listen to rap (talk or sing -- make up your mind! ;)) and dreck like  You Light Up My Life makes me want to gouge out my ears with a letter opener.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to hijack the thread....
I think Nickelback is a heck of a lot better than a lot of the sh*t that the so-called experts bless as "award worthy".

I've had friends say "It's uncool to like Nickelback dude, you better drop that."

That's flat out stupid.

Male voice that makes me cringe: Lil Wayne
Female voice that makes me cringe: Macy Gray (thankfully she had that one hit and was never to be seen again)

I'm gonna throw the Dave Matthews Band under the bus but not because I don't like his stuff...  Great talent especially live.  But ever since the whole John Edwards / Rielle Hunter love-child thing I get the creeps whenever they're on the radio.  Kinda funny now that I think about it, they've been kinda quiet since too.  Hmmm....

Macy Gray is awesome! She's certainly still around.

When did "songs" become "tracks"? (Like on another forum of mine where people post videos they've made, only they call them "edits.") Or was that a Casey Casem thing -- back when he used to count down the top 40 on Sunday mornings?

I guess we are in the CD-Itunes era when the CD Player or computer refers to it as tracks...I like the fact that we can agree to disagree on things without getting nasty. Im just not a fan of Macy or her voice....or Bieber's voice for that matter.

Coming soon: The "Tracks that you can listen to all day/drop everything to listen to" thread.

I'd like to nominate the song "Nicety" by Michel'le for dumbest line ever in a song.....The guy in the first verse asks Michel'le while trying to pick her up: "Excuse me, honey, but is your husband married?" Really??? :/O
