Polar Bears Take The Plunge
« on: February 05, 2007, 04:16:53 AM »
Yesterday my wife and I attended a Polar Bear event as spectators to support the Make A Wish Foundation. It was very cold and windy as the "Bears" stampeded into the freezing surf.

Everyone came charging out and was frantically drying their hair and covering up with robes, towels, sweat suits etc. Except two fellows with freshly shaven heads. They tossed on their robes ran a towel over their heads and lit celebratory cigars! They definitely had the advantage in the low maitenance department.

They actually cancelled the Polar Bear Plunge around here because of the extreme cold temps/wind chills!  :/O

Too much shrinkage....I'll pass.

I think that would go beyond shrinkage.  It would likely result in inversion.

Lol, think I'll pass too. Seems like hypothermia would set in? How long do they actually stay in the water? You could get me in there with the proper warming device- a bottle of jack ;D

Not enough Jack in the world to make me do that .....

It was colddddddddd but the township let them go in the water. They had paramedics on shore, lifeguards in neoprene suits standing in the water and a helicopter hovering over the area the bears went in. They only stay in as long as it takes to run in, dive, and run back out. And it would take more then a couple shots of J.D. to get me in that water.  :o

Damn, the ambulance and helicopter is enough to scare me away. No amount of peeing in the water would help either...and people electively do this?  :D

Well I won't go that far.  But it for sure wouldn't be anything I planned to do with or without the coaching of Jack.
