Am I the only one with this issue??
« on: December 07, 2013, 09:43:26 AM »
I am a auto tech in Vermont. Cold winters and generally a cold working environment, so a winter hat is a must. Problem is, I cant get a hat to stay seated on my freshly shaved head. It continuously rides up and is quite annoying. I have tried all sorts but nothing seems to work. I've searched the internet and I haven't seen another issue mentioned like mine.  I like skull type hats that form to my head. They don't need to be thick. Anyone else have this issue? What am I doing wrong??

Maybe a ski mask?   Sorry, I couldn't resist.  I'm not much help being in Florida.  The only think I can think of is maybe leave some stubble?

Good luck   :)

What about just a regular ball cap ? I saw a sly guy today who had his skull cap pulled down over his ears, which I think he did to stop it from riding up.

I have a polar fleece hat by LL Bean that does a good job of staying on my head.

I have heard this from a number of guys. But I have not had this problem and I need to wear a hat in CT. My issue has been the opposite. It's harder for me to get a hat ON since any stubble whatsoever makes it difficult to pull the hat over my head. Even after a new shave I have not had an issue with my hat sliding off.

I wear a ball cap in the winter while I am not at work. It is not very comfortable wearing one while working and sweating.

I have a carhart fleece one now that I am fighting with. Works ok with stubble but definately not freshly shaved. This is so frustrating!!

Perhaps a Ushanka, or an Aviator/Bomber hat would fill your needs.

I have a fleece lined, flat top Harley hat that works great.

I have the same issue.  So i'm going to have to check out some of the hats mentioned in this thread :)

Skullcaps don't work for me unless I have a little stubble.  Hats that cover the head but only go to the tops of my ears are ones that really creep up on me.  I have 1 hat that goes to the bottom of my ears that seems to stay in place. it moves, but very little.

Hi vtbimmer,

I'm a bald guy in Vermont as well.  My solution was to have a wool cap (or rather skullcap is the term I think) knit for myself.  My mother created it for me  ::).  I have a lot of trouble finding hooded jackets that stay put as my head is quite small.  My suggestion to you is to find a hat of a coarse material that will be able to "velcro" itself to your head and stay put.  It's tough, but once you find something that works it's good to stick with it.

Good luck.
