Prophet, I will definitely let you know.

I have yet to try even a basic shave with the Futur, as I have been very busy the last few days.  I want to take sufficient time during an evening to try it out.  Unfortunately, this week doesn't look too much better.  This coming weekend might be the best opportunity.  Whenever it happens, I will post up my experience.

The only things that change for me are the cream or soap and the subsequent ASB.
But those small changes do make a difference.

For today:

Face
Razor: Edwin Jagger Bulbous Lined/Bic Metal Guard Disposable (for the fine work around my mustache and goatee)
Blade: NOS Gillette Platinum (Swedes)
Brush: Edwin Jagger Medium Silvertip
Soap:  Nancy Boy Signature Scent Shave Cream
A/S:    Razorock Alum Block; Generic Witch Hazel; Nancy Boy Replenishing After Shave Balm

Head
Razor: Bump Fighter Cartridge Handle
Blade: Bump Fighter Single Edge Cartridge
Brush: Edwin Jagger Medium Silvertip
Soap:  Nancy Boy Signature Scent Shave Cream
A/S:    Razorock Alum Block; Generic Witch Hazel; Nancy Boy Signature Scent After Shave Balm

Soap  : Tabac

I finally tried Witch Hazel, after reading so much about it by Warhawk.

Waine:  I'm glad that U are enjoying the witch hazel.  Did U keep it in the fridge?  There is nothing like "cold" witch hazel or Osage Rub. O0
Sounds like Tabac is an excellent product.

Bob:  Glad that U have taken the DE plunge.  All I gotta say is that there is nothing like the process of a safety razor shave.  Matter of fact... I cannot wait to shave later this evening. O0

My Safety Razor SOTD:

Head (at sink)
Razor: Lord 6 DE
Blade: Wilkinson
Brush: Bump Patrol Brush
Soap: Shea Butter Shaving soap mixed with Bald Guyz and Shave Secret
One pass WTG, One Pass ATG
Ice Cube
Witch Hazel
Osage Rub
Bump Patrol

Face (at other sink, Master bathroom has two sinks)
Same as above, except No Bald Guyz Gel and used Bic disposable to edge moustache/Beard Jawline.

First shave with DE was not too bad....As a straight razor user, there wasn't too much adjustment. Thoughts?

Hi Harry:  Congrats on taking the DE plunge.  It sounds like U had an okay time.  I would give it atleast a 30 day rule on DE shaves.  The angles can be tricky.  The Lord Premium (L6) is a great razor.  It is not expensive but 85% of the reviews are very positive.  I hope you can continue your DE shaves even though U had an "okay" 1st time.

So... what our your thoughts?  U think that U will still continue with DE shaving?  Are ya gonna try the Astra SP blades?  Keep us posted on your DE journey.

Warhawk, actually, I used an Astra blade on Wednesday when I was shaping up my beard....but I thought it didn't count unless you shave both face and head.....My next shave will be with the Derby blade. I thought that DE razors were supposed to be sharper than today's traditional handheld razors; I didn't feel hardly any difference...They do cut pretty well though, the only downside is disassembling the razor to clean out the clogged up hair....Good, rewarding experience though.

My relaxing evening shave for last night:

Face:  sink

Razor:  FaTip
Blade:  Shark Super Chrome
Brush:  Semogue 620
Soap:  Mike's Natural Soap (Lime)

Dome:  shower

Razor:  Weber DLC
Blade, Brush, Soap:  same as above

This is my 1st time using the Lime scent from Mike's Natural Soaps.  As most of you know,  Mike's Natural Soaps is my favorite.  The Lime is a great scent.  It smells invigorating and not too powerful.  The Shark SC blades are made in Egypt.  I had a little "tugging" on my dome shave but overall I had a BBS face/dome shave.  These blades are also forgiving.  I recommend these blades besides it also has a cool name.  It's kinda cool saying that U shaved with a Shark. O:O

Wow.... U thought the DE blades were not as sharp as today's razor blades cartridges? ???  Well... all I gotta say is that YMMV.  I have been shaving with the DE blades since April of 2012 and I find that the DE blades are sharper, better, and definitely less expensive compared to today's cartridge razors such as the Fusion, Mach 3.  They are sharp and I get the best shaves and there is NOOOOOOO comparison however again that is my review and that is what works for me.

I hope that the DE experiment will go better for you and that you will give the DE blades a fair try.  Keep us posted on your DE journey.  Good luck and I hope that U can get better results.

Oh, I enjoyed the DE shave....I guess I was reading too much into the other guys' horror stories....I guess as a veteran head shaver who has used straight edge razors that may be more dangerous, my adjustment to the DE was easy....I will say that replacement blades are sure as hell cheap, a big plus for me....I think I will enjoy doing the "Paw Paw Shave" for a while!

I had a nice relaxing evening shave with a Shark.8)

Face and Dome

Razor:  Weber ARC
Blade:  Shark SC
Soap:  Mikes's Natural Soaps (Lime)
Brush: Semogue 620

I am really liking the Shark blades.  Is it better than my favorite (Astra SP)?  No, but it is a great blade that gives a BBS shave.

Head (in the shower)

Razor : HeadBlade
Blade : Wilkinson Sword (Astra two-blade generic)
Soap  : HeadSlick applied with brush
A/S    : Witch Hazel

Face (at sink)

Razor : Murkur (on setting #2)
Blade : Astra Superior Premium Platinum
Soap  : C. O. Bigelow Premium Shaving Cream
Brush : Drug store cheap-o brush
A/S     : Gillette AS Lotion (Sensitive Skin)

Comments:

The head shave was routine. The face shave left me with a few weepers but nothing too bad. For some reason the Astra blades tend to be unforgiving on my face. This is why I dialed back the Murkur to a 2 to hopefully offset the aggressiveness of the Astra blade. It didn't help. The C. O. Bigelow soap has a bit of a medicinal smell to it but it is growing on me and it makes a nice lather.

I will have to jump in on this one soon. However I really like Taylor of Old Bond Street cream in a tub. My 3 favorite scents are Avocado, Lavender, and Sandalwood. I really like the lavender and sandalwood after-shave balm from Art of Shaving.

I have a Merkur DE and switch between feather and derby blades. I have a good badger brush but honestly don't recall the brand.

I just recently picked up an old milk glass style shaving mug from a flea market for $5. I like it.

I enjoy my DE face shave at the sink every other day.

I've yet to shave the dome with the DE. For now I keep that simple in the shower using the CVS brand of the Magnum blades, Aveeno shave gel and no after shave or lotion unless just really dry. My skin is oily and adding lotions or after shaves only speeds up the oiliness and also breaks out my skin.

War hawk....post a pic of your entire DE collection. Looks like you use lots of different blades, soaps and brushes. I'd love to see the setup.
