DE blade recommendation
« on: May 11, 2015, 06:19:02 PM »
Hi All!

Have recently switched over to a D.E razor and am really liking it. Purchased the Merkur long handled safety razor and then bought some Derby brand blades. I had really good results with the free Merkur Super blade that came with the handle, but really bad results with the Derby. Merkur Supers are pretty spendy and was wondering if anyone has suggestions for a similar blade with a better price point.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I use the Astras, but I liked the Feathers alot.
Bald by choice, and loving it!

Welcome!

I've tried at least a half-dozen brands of blades, but I would rank the Derby dead last among all of them. Voshkod is my favorite, but Wilkinson and Dorco are two pretty good brands if you're trying to save money and buy razors in bulk. Good luck!

My go to blade have become the Crystal Blades (aka Israeli Personna).

For me, Feathers (while a great blade) tend to be too sharp for me.  The Merkurs on the other end of the scale was ok, but they're pricey.  Wound up getting a sampler pack and when I tried the crystals, they worked best for me. Plus I felt they were somewhere in the middle in terms of sharpness and price.

I've just got the crystal blades, I even got up early to give myself enough time for a de head shave, nice shave,  very smooth and close.

Update: just had another shave with the crystals, super close, and really reduced the shadow, very pleased
