Does cold weather effect hair growth???
« on: November 25, 2007, 06:44:20 PM »
Sounds like a funny question, but this weekend I mentioned to my wife that it seemed like my hair was growing slower and I was even considering going to every other day shaving.  She asked if I thought that the cold weather effected how my hair grew.  I first thought it was a crazy question, but I'm not quiet sure what other explanations there are.  Maybe I'm just losing more hair and I'm starting to notice it  more.  Anyone else notice this cold weather effect???

Back when I had plenty of hair, I always thought it grew more quickly in the summertime.

Now that you mention it, though, I did go two whole days without shaving this weekend, the first time I'd done that in about a year.  Had quite a bit of stubble in the fringe area, but the top was still relatively smooth except for some minor fuzz.  I don't know if that has anything to do with the time of year.  I just assumed that I've reached the point where I'm about 99% bald on top.

My hair is thickest on the top and that is where I noticed that I could probably go 2 days between shaves.  I guess this could be a good thing if it leads to less shaving time.

Well I think hair grows faster in the summer cause you get vitiamin D from the sun which may help, and in the winter we wear a hat to keep our heads warm so we get less vitiamin d...don't know if it is truw but makes sense to me.

There was actually something on Yahoo news a few months
ago talking about hair growth and how your hair grows three
to four times faster in the summer than winter if you are active
outdoors.  I will see if I can find the article and post it.

SlyinKC:  As cold as they say it is in KC right now, I'm suprised anything moves, much less grows.

You've got that right.  At this rate, I won't have to shave till the spring thaw.

Bros I can tell you that my hair has slowed down to a mean crawl, I can almost skip shaving every other day because there isn't even enough stubble for velcro. I wonder how Arctic bladers fare.

I think that there is truth to this concept. I have noticed that my hair growth (face and head) and finger nails grow a lot slower in winter. Right about now it's hot, so it is maximum upkeep required. I cut my finger nails a few days ago and they need cutting again, they all must be interrelated.

Hair grows 1/2 an inch a month.  In the hot and humid weather the hair absorbs the sweat and oils and swells a bit so seems to grow faster.  In the dryer weather, the hair is thinner because it's dry.
