Title: Sunscreen Opinions
Post by: jbrit25 on March 09, 2016, 06:49:17 AM
I'm heading to the beach in about a month and it will be my first summer with a liberated scalp.  I currently wear an everyday sunscreen on my head that's SPF 15, but I don't think this will be strong enough for 5hrs on the beach. I spend a lot of time in the ocean and so a hat isn't always ideal. My biggest worry is that the stronger sunscreens with high SPF's will make me break out after a few days of use and I don't want bumps all over my head. Any suggestions for a good high SPF sunscreen for my noggin?

This will also be my first summer shaved,  and im looking forward to it. Anyway i dont know too much about what sunscreens might work well for someone like you who has apparently sensitive skin, at least against the ingredients in sunscreens, however i will tell you something my dermatologist once told me. Dont waste your money on anything higher than spf 30. They dont really protect any better than a 30 does, at least not by any significant margin.

Here's a warning for you.  Don't slather on sunscreen on a freshly shaved head.  Some of them burn like hell.  Test your sunscreen first on a small area.

I do not use sunscreen on a regular basis (I work indoors), but anytime I go to the beach I use a minimum of SPF 45.  I never had an issue with breaking out, but as Red said, sunscreen will burn on a freshly shaved head.  So if you normally shave in the mornings, you may want to shift to night shaving while at the beach.

I use a spray on sunscreen by Neutrogena.  It is comes in all SPF's.  It is a bit expensive but it is great because it sprays on, dries instantly, is not greasy and is water resistant, (great when you are getting in and out of the water.)

Not some, most.  Wait at least half an hour before applying.
