Title: How do you keep a beanie from slipping of your smooth head?
Post by: baldaholic on December 08, 2011, 03:19:23 PM
Hi everybody,

I finally changed the tires on my car yesterday - wearing a beanie.

By the time I was finished, it slid up the sides of my head quiet a bit ;-)

I guess that is a disadvantage of being smooth.

your beanie will always slip from your head most especially if U have shaved that day.  the smoother your dome the more times your beanie will slip from your dome (at least from my sly experience).

I guess you're talking about a more slouchy/heavy beanie?

I personally use two hats. One tight beanie/hat that is 100% cotton and that goes directly over my head. And I put a second beanie (the slouchy one) over it.

I do this because some of my beanies are made from wool or other stuff that makes my scalp itch like crazy. I found, by putting a cotton beanie, I did not only solve the itching problem, but also that the slouchy beanie was kept better in place (I guess it's because the tighter beanie does not move around your head as easily, and its texture gives the slouchy beanie more grip).

Or maybe you could also try a tuck a headband or knot a bandana under the beanie?

Good luck with it!!!

Hi guys,

i was freshly shaved - so ... not much that one can do, except using some duck-tape or super glue ;-)

The beanie I wore was this one:

very comfortable, but not slouchy.
I guess, I just gotta watch it and pull it down from time to time when I am smooth. ... lol

I've personally not had that issue, but can I make everyone in the northern hemisphere jealous and tell you its summer here :)

It's colder than a mother-in-laws kiss here, but I like it. My scully stays on my velcro head, ok.

Oh you are so right--especially with a melon the size of mine--the beanies really want to ride up.  Only use for stubble I've found--keeps the beanie in place.

if you shaved it all against the grain, yes:d

shave it all with the grain, then ask someone to try getting a beanie out of your head:D

I was just talking about this on my facebook the other day. I havent been able to find a good way other than having stubble. One of my friends mentioned keeping a days worth of stubble right above the ears to act as a velcro type but it didnt work for me. I will just keep dealing with it for now. It is the price we Sly guys have to pay to look good

LOL ... yes, with stubble it is sometimes even hard to get the beanie on the head.

I guess Mike is right:

My stubble keeps my scully on tighter than a tick with lock jaw.

Does "beanie" = "watch cap"?

I find there's enough elasticity in a stretched-to-wear watch cap that its coming off has never taken place, and I must have occasionally put one on right after a shave.  I do pull it down firmly and don't wear it heavily brim-rolled, perched like a pancake, covering just a bit of the top as I sometimes see them worn, although not by sly-types.

In Ming's lexicon, a "beanie" is what a Cub Scout or a cardinal wears as part of his uniform/regalia.

Now, I have had a bit of trouble with (borrowed) yarmulke slippage at Passover when asked to a Seder, but wind is usually no problem around the Passover table (except briefly when the door is opened for Elijah to come in).

My beanie slides right off in the morning, by lunch it sticks like velcro.

I usually don't mind it when the beanie rides up on the dome, since it's always an easy fix; just pull it back down. I will admit though, I do find it to be more annoying on days when it's especially cold outside. Like yesterday, when it hit -47 degrees out. Shaved dome + Alaska's winter = The ultimate brain freeze.

I have a fleece-lined bean that stays on pretty well right after shaving, but all the unlined ones slide up unless I have a good amount of stubble.

I've found it comes with the territory of a no-traction scalp... On freshly shaved days, I constantly find my beanie perched on the very top of my head.  Waddayagonnado?
