hello fellow chrome domes.... one day at work we had a discussion on how we were disciplined as a child & how we discplined our own children.  i wanted 2 have a discussion with my sly members on this same topic.

i'll start:  since me & the wifey don't have any kids, yet.  i'll start with my own childhood.  1st of all i never had a timeout (r  u kidding me?)  when i was in elementary & junior high ...i received an old fashion butt whooping.  my dad used 2 get his leather belt (in front of me) & did the deed.  my mom used 2 take her leather slipper & did the deed.  however...when i was in high school, i received restrictions such as NO going out or using the telephone.  IMO....i'll take the butt whooping any day compared 2 the restrictions.  restrictions hurt longer. 

all in all...the discipline that my parents applied 2 my brother & i really helped.  if me & the wifey had children...we agreed that a good ole butt whooping would b one of our choices of discipline.  so....how 'bout U?  how were U discplined?  and how do U discipline your children?  and 2 the new sly daddies (tyler, jdog, andre and jim) what will U do?

Things at our house growing up were handled quickly and decisively.  I wasn't spanked a lot, but when it was appropriate it was certainly used. 
With our 2 kids, we use time out some but time outs do NOT work on 4 year boys apparently.  I pop him in the fanny and that seems to work for him.  Every kid has what works for them.  Finding it is the trick.

I was about the same Warhawk.

Dad had the ninja like abillity to remove belt from his pants and double it up in one move just as he would land the first strike. Amazing ass whoping abilities that guy had.

Mom had a wooden spoon that must have been made by the Amish as it was bulky, crude and never broke. That thing hurt like hell.

Like Warhawk, I received restrictions as I got older and stronger (no phone, no going out, just to school and back home) but those just led me to break those restrictions only to be giving a lengthier sentence.

There is a point where the folks kept adding on weeks of restrictions to the point of it meaning absolutely nothing. So like a prisoner with a life sentence, why not try to escape right?

I think my parents would rather be drawn and quartered than deal with me at 16 again.

Yes it was amazing how fast that damn belt came flying out of the belt loops.  You could hear it whirling the air as he yanked it out.  The bad thing about my house was...dad didnt ever get home until around 6 pm...so we usually got in trouble right after school and my mom all she had to say was you are going to get it when your dad comes home.  Sometimes dad would take care of it as soon as he walked in or he would wait until after supper just depended on what kind of day he had at work.  So the agony of sitting around waiting for it to happen was far worse than recieving the whoopin'.  My parents never abused us...we only got what we deserved.....only one time I threatened to turn my mom in.  She went to smack my rear in with the flyswatter....well i turned really quick...and the wire handle went across the back of my leg...and left a welt...needless to say..she didnt give me another one after that.  The best part wiht my  mom was , she wasnt a fast runner.....we would always play catch me if you can  around the kitchen table.  I can see the look on her face now.....IF YOU DONT STOP....YOU ARE GONNA GET IT WORSE THAN WHAT YOU WOULD HAVE RECIEVED BEFORE WE STARTED THIS CAT AND MOUSE GAME!...lol but of course...i never stopped...i just kept going round and round...

My mom had a cutting board with a handle on it... and she could swing it harder than Barry Bonds right after he juiced up!

Dad had a 1/4" dowel made out of hickory... plus the belt!

The principal in my elementary school had an over sized ping pong paddle with holes drilled through it for less resistance...

Ahhhhh... the good old days!

I always thought the holes were for making it feel more pain.  I always imagined the skin and flesh on my ass squeezing thru those holes like a strainer...........OUCH!

I used to get the belt from time to time and I thank my father for it. My parents were firm with us but always showed us love and support and guidance.

As I got older I sort of misbehaved less and less and was kind of a recluse at home so I dont think I was EVER grounded.

With my child I belive that a swat on bum if he does something especially naughty isnt a bad thing. There is a big difference between discipline and abuse.

Our principal had what seemed to be a cricket bat with holes drilled in it. You would have to bend over, put your hands on his desk, and your feet would leave the ground with each swing... Sorry Timmj, didn't mean to turn you on there  ;D

My mother would send us out to the shrub bush in the from yard and we would have to choose a "rubber" switch and pull the leaves off, then hand to her so she could whip us.
Or, if we were in the car she would just backhand us and knock us out!

Then when Dad came home we would get the belt....

So Warhawk, I beat my kids with a belt, but be prepared, when they learn to dial 911 they will try to say they are calling the cops on ya, mine tried once and I handed him the phone and said start dialing as I tore his ass up. We never had that convo again... ever!

Good old fashioned asian discipline which meant a lot of ass whoopings if I ever looked at the old man the wrong way.

After awhile I learned how to adapt to this form of punishment by not being too obvious in my misdeeds. I was always the very good kid in class who always placed the blame on the louder more obnoxious kids if I ever got into trouble. Who on earth would suspect the quiet little smarty pants?  ;D

My old man handed out the ass whoopins, got quite a chin from it now, haven't been blacked out since i was an adult.  My brother on the other hand didn't get them nearly as often and never as many as he should have, i still took'em. now he's not a bad dude just an idiot with no sense of nothing, and i can't stand the disrespectful *****.

I do not have kids but fully plan on handing out ass whoopins and if they have any issues i'll call CAS(children's aid soceity) for them.

canada pass a law fee years ago stating that it's still ok to use physical abuse as punishment as long as it is not abusive.

with my pops it was the closed fist or the belt.

with my mom it was what ever she could pick up and swing at me, she could get real dam creative.

When I was younger my mom always told me and my younger sister "wait til your father gets home". Like timmj said it was worse waiting for the getting in trouble, sometimes I would almost want him to yell at me sooner then later. As I got older my mom wasnt too threatning but to this day I am still scared of my Dad even though I'm a good 4-5 inches taller and out weigh him by about 20-25 lbs. He never abused us, he only gave what we deserved. After I had gotten older our Mom had told me that my Dad had a reputation for getting into fights when he would play soccer or even after the games. I was always at practices with him while i grew up so I guess I always heard him yelling at his players.  But as far as for my daughter, I'm gonna be  the strict parent (giving the ass whoopings).
