Title: How do you keep the collars on your polo shirts from curling?
Post by: Rev. Cleanhead on July 26, 2011, 07:09:51 PM
I realize this may sound pretty trivial, but I have several polo/golf-style shirts (all of which are less than one-year old) that the collars keep curling up on  >:(
I'm not much of a fashion expert... does anybody else experience this and has anybody figured out how to solve this petty frustration?

What a GREAT question. I thought I was the only one!

One thing I do that seems to help is unfold/uncrease the collar after I wear a collared shirt. I also make sure that they collars are unfolded/uncreased when I fold them.

That's one of the things I love about this forum. We can ask about anything, not just necessarily about being bald.  I don't wear polo shirts, I always carry a gun so I only wear shirts made to be worn untucked, mainly bowling type shirts (like Charlie sheen wore on Two and half men). If I wore a polo shirt, I would have a chance of printing (the gun showing through under the shirt).

Good advice still.

ironing or starch

May depend on the brand?  I have trouble with Old Navy shirt collars the most.

I'd agree with "it depends upon the brand". A more expensive/upscale shirt is less likely to curl.

I almost always wear button down shirts, or shirts with collar stays to keep them from curling. Just like the look of a broadcloth shirt over a knit.

I have the same problem with some of my shirts. I just don't worry about it.  :)
I would think a hot clothes iron would fix the problem though.

I think I found my solution.  I've allowed my shirts to hang dry straight out of the washing machine.  Avoiding the dryer seems to help considerably as a supplement to ironing.
Thanks all!

Great answer.  I'm a CCW holder as well (with previous law enforcement service) and carry frequently.  Most days my office attire is a nice polo-style shirt tucked into dress pants, which means my LCP rides along in an ankle holster.  Totally agree that a polo prints the weapon too much.  Silk shirts (like Hawaiian shirts) also print too much.

And I also love the sheer variety of topics discussed here!

I'm a CHL holder here in Texas. Glock 26 in a Crossbreed Supertuck works great for me. Planning on getting one for my S&W M&P .45 next. I don't worry too much about the bulge on my hip. 99.9% of the population don't even notice. They're wrapped up in whatever they have going on at the moment.

I've been looking at Crossbreed Supertucks for my Glock 23.  What's your experience/impression of the rig?

:) You should have seen the look on the church secretary's face the first day I rode my motorcycle to the office when first assigned to my current church!  8)

I will never carry IWB with anything other than a Crossbreed Supertuck. I wore it on a recent 5 hour drive to LA and could barely even tell it was there. I used to have a G23 and it rode just fine in it as well.

We actually have a security team at church, Pastor carries, I carry and sit in the front row, a cop that attends sits back left, a detention officer sits back right. we ALL know what to do if that horrible tragedy ever happened.

Here is my pastor's blog, he explains perfectly how he justifies carrying a gun AND being a pastor/christian.

Hii.. Rev. Cleanhead, i understand the problem you are facing with your polo shirts.  As we know, curled collar ruins the overall feel of the attire and many times, we get annoyed by something like curled up collars. But now, you can get rid of this difficulty and say bye bye.. to curled collars with sports collars stays or Hulas. These collar stays are specially designed for polos and sports shirts. Simply stick them beneath the polo collars and you will get straight collars within few seconds.
