Many of my readers know that I prefer the matte look to my dome versus a very shiny look. They also know that I am a HUGE advocate of wearing sunscreen ANYTIME a person is going out into the sun. Well, I'm always excited when a product comes out that tackles the two objectives of keeping my dome protected with sunscreen and keeping the shine to a minimum.

Last January I heard of a product called Dome Defense by the company Dome Essentials (http://www.domeessentials.com) that "reduces shine" and provides protection from the sun with SPF 26. I immediately contacted them to let them know that I would love to try out their product. To my shigrin, they sent me a box filled with a tube of Dome Defense, two of their t-shirts, and two of their baseball caps, and two skull caps. All of them are great products!

So, why did I wait this long to tell you about Dome Defense if I've know about it since January? Well, I wanted to make sure that it was a time of year that you would use this product and take notice of it. Otherwise you would just read about it and go on buying your typical stuff.

My Review:

This product does what it says it will do! It reduces shine on your head while at the same time protecting you from the sun. I've tested this product at BBQs, on the golf course, and in my daily adventures and I have yet to be disappointed.

Pros:

Sunscreen that protects your dome.
Matte finish if you like to reduce shine
Reasonably priced. ($12.00 for 4 oz at the time of this post)

That's right guys (and ladies), you read the title correctly!  But before you get too excited, I'm talking about Coochy Shave Cream - designed to provide a rash free shave in the bikini zone and other areas of the body.

How and why did I come to shave my head with Coochy? 

How:

Well,  I was in a store with my wife when I struck up a conversation with the clerk (Stacey) and her bald guy friend.  I happened to be wearing a Sly Bald Guys t-shirt (like I normally do when I go out) and she asked what the shirt was about.  I told her about Sly Bald Guys and that I reviewed head shaving products.  She indicated that she sold a shaving cream on her website and asked if I'd be interested in doing a review on it if she gave me a sample.  I said "sure" and the next thing I know she's pulling her Coochy out of her purse to show me.  Upon seeing it, I couldn't resist the possibilities of writing this review. 

Why:

The mere fact of being able to write Coochy several times in a post and actually have it pertain to the act of head shaving.  Plus, I was interested in how it would work.  I mean if it's made for our ladies sensitive spots, it's gotta be designed to give a good shave.

The review:

As part of my usual shave routine, I exfoliated my dome and went for my shave cream.  Though, today I decided to grab the Coochy.

I squeezed about a nickle size bit of Coochy cream into my palm and lathered my head with it.  I then proceeded to shave in my usual pattern.  The first thing I noticed is that the Coochy cream smells a bit floral - I guess to be expected.  It also has a consistency similar to HeadLube and is non foaming. 

In my first pass, the razor glided along very nicely and continued to do so throughout my shave.  I reapplied some Coochy cream to go back against the grain and found it to be just as lubricated and burn free as the previous pass.  The Coochy cream did a great job or lubricating my head and provided me with a very close shave!


Pros:

Very lubricating
Razor bump and rash free
Doubles as a conditioner - ok, I guess we really don't need that one, but that's good for your lady.
It also works great on your face

Cons:

The floral smell
I'm not sure single guys would want their buddies or ladies to come over and find that they have Coochy cream in their bathroom.


For all of you guys with a special lady, get her a bottle of Coochy so the next time you unexpectedly run out of shaving cream, you can just grab her Coochy to get you by.

I know some or all of the products have been mentioned at one time or another here, but might as well have a review of all of them in one place.  Once note, I'm going to review the products in the order that I used them in my routine.

Here we go!


Bald Guyz Wash and Shampoo

First off, when I opened this product, the first thing I noticed was the fragrance; huge fan of it!  It was very light and refreshing.  I put about a nickel size portion into the palm of my hand and massaged it around my scalp.  After using it for a couple of weeks, I've noticed that my scalp has remained free of acne and has felt very clean.


Bald Guyz Deep Cleanser and Conditioner

I used this product about 3 to 4 times a week.  It says to use two to three times a week, but I'm used to using other exfoliators daily, so I thought I'd see if there were any side effects to using it more often - there were none!  It has the same great fragrance that the shampoo has and I believe attributed to my acne free head while using it.

The deep cleanser does not have exfoliating beads, but does exfoliate your skin using natural fruit acids as an exfoliant
so it is softer on the skin.  So, if issues with other exfoliators, this is a product you should try out.


Bald Guyz Ultimate Shave Gel

One word came to mind when I started using this product - WOW!  This stuff is slick!  So slick that after applying it to my head I have a hard time holding the shower head while I'm shaving.  (I have one of the shower heads that you can remove and is attached to a hose) 

I did my usual first pass with the razor and I could tell that this shaving gel really helped glide the razor across my dome.  After the first pass, I applied another nickel sized portion of the shaving gel and did the second pass.  This step probably wasn't needed, but I like to make sure my dome is lubed up. 

The gel is clear and does create a very slight white foam when applying it to your head, but not much at all.  This helps when shaving because you can easily see where you've been and where you haven't.  I give this product a huge thumbs up!  If you haven't tried it out, do so soon!

Another plus is that it also worked out well on my face.



Bald Guyz Moisture Gel

I have to admit, I was skeptical about the moisture gel, mostly because I'm a big fan of lotions.  I was very impressed with the moisture gel after using it.  It feels a lot like putting aloe vera on  your skin - very soothing!  This is probably due to it having a base of water and aloe.

I really liked that after applying the gel, it soaked in quickly and left my head feeling moisturized but not greasy.  This product also gets a thumbs up!


Bald Guyz Sunscreen with SPF 30+

I love that this sunscreen has a SPF of 30 plus.  So far, that's the largest SPF of any product designed for the bald guy in mind.  I had used this product before Bald Guyz sent it to me and I was very impressed.  When applying it, it's very much like applying Bull Frog sunscreen where it quickly dries and leaves your head protected.  I had always used this product later on in the day as I keep it in my car.  One of the fall backs that I noticed is that when applying the sunscreen immediately after shaving and applying the moisture gel is that my head stung like crazy for about 10 seconds.  That is a good wake up call in the morning, but I'd prefer if it had more of a sohttp://www.slybaldguys.com/serendipity/serendipity_admin.php?serendipity[adminModule]=entries&serendipity[adminAction]=new

Back to a more positive note with the sunscreen.  If you like shine, this sunscreen will make your dome very shiny!!

Overall, I like the product and would recommend it for use an hour or more after you've shaved.



Bald Guyz Head Wipes

There has been a lot of positive responses to the head wipes on this forum and it's well deserved.  Nothing beats the head wipes for you when you need a cool refreshing touch up during the mid day or after exercising.  The head wipes are great to keep in your car, desk, and other places for when you need to refresh the dome.  They now come in a bulk pack of 50 to bring the price down per wipe even more!

Tip:  Keep a couple in the refrigerator for when you really want to cool your dome down.

One note, when using the Shave Gel, Moisture Gel, and Sunscreen, keep the cap pointed up when you open them.  Because the products are water based, they can come out of the tube pretty quick.
