The Tax Game - Why The Rich Get More Taxes Back Than You Do

I just got back from meeting with my tax accountant to have my taxes done. Every year I meet with him he talks to me about how to play the "tax game" a little better each year. The one thing that he always reminds me is that there are two types of forms that are provided to list the things that you can deduct or "write off," a Schedule A and a Schedule C.

The typical American person or family will use the Schedule A to list deductions such as Medical Expenses, Other Taxes Paid, Mortgage Interest, Charitable Deductions, etc. It is good to have items to list on the Schedule A as it does lower your adjusted gross income (also known as the amount you get taxed on) but, it's not as good as having things to list on the Schedule C. Here's why:

A Schedule C allows you to write off any business expenses that you have accrued throughout the year. Things like Advertising and Marketing costs, Automobile Expense, Rent, Utilities, Insurance, and most other expenses that have to do with a business. How is having these things better? Without getting into the math, having Schedule C expenses write your income down quicker than having Schedule A expenses. For example, having $5,000 in Schedule C expenses will decrease your adjusted gross income by almost $5,000, close to dollar for dollar. Having $5,000 in Mortage Interest may only write your adjusted gross income down by $2,000 depending on your tax bracket. Remember, the goal is to LOWER your adjusted gross income as far as you can.

You may have noticed a couple of the items in the list of things on the Schedule C that you pay on a monthly basis, but don't get to write off; things like Automobile Costs, Rent, and Utilities. Yep, the people that own businesses can actually write off things like their Internet Access, Electrical Bill, Rent, and any miles they put on their car due to business and in 2007 that was 48.5 cents per mile or $48.50 for every 100 miles you drive. That's right, people are actually writing off the things that people like you use everyday just because they own a business.

If you're not happy with your tax return, or having to pay this year, then consider starting a business of some kind. It doesn't have to be a fancy busines that cost a ton of money to start up. The 15 most badass bald guys - DoubleViking.com

Today, one of our forum members submited a link to a post at DoubleViking.com that outlines their thoughts on the 15 most badass bald guys. All of the badasses that they outline are really characters from movies, tv, or video games. They also include a video or picture of each guy that they outline along with a funny little bit on why each guy is a badass. Here's what they say about John McClane:

"In the first Die Hard, he had some hair. In the second, he had a
little less. In the third, his hair seemed to be making a beeline for
the back of his skull, and the fourth it was gone altogether. He is
John McClane, and his head is far too badass to tolerate simple hair
follicles."

I'm always glad to see sites (especially big ones like DoubleViking.com) to put bald guys in a positive light. Can anyone think of more badass bald guys that weren't listed?

Alexander Roy The Outlaw Racer

Alexander Roy is bald and he's an outlaw in the road rally racing world. Here's what the NY Times had to say about him:

"Roy, the 35-year-old president of Europe by Car, a high-end car rental agency based in New York, has achieved fame in automotive circles for participating in road rallies like the Gumball 3000 and Bullrun. Those events are successors to the 1970s Cannonball Runs that inspired the movie franchise.

The events are usually weeklong affairs that do not officially sanction racing but involve teams speeding from checkpoint to checkpoint.

A relentless self-promoter with a shiny bald head, Roy became known for driving in a mock German police car dressed as an officer. He reasoned the outfit could help keep him out of jail and win style points with judges and notoriety with fans. His co-driver, Maher, 28, works in banking and races in Porsche club events on weekends. " (Read the entire article)

Roy recently came out with the book, The Driver: My Dangerous Pursuit of Speed and Truth in the Outlaw Racing World, which describes a subculture of illegal endurance racing and efforts to break transcontinental records set in the 1970s and 80s.

Neil Strauss, the famous, bald PUA (Pick Up Artist) and author has released a new set of books to follow up his hit book The Game: Penetrating The Secret Society Of Pick Up Artists called Rules Of The Game. Bald Guy Michael Symon Is The New Iron Chef!

And the next Iron Chef is ... Michael Symon!

Symon beat out John Besh for the title of the new Iron Chef America on November 11th in front of guest judges consisting of previous Iron Chefs. In an article in Fortune Small Business, Symon is quoted as saying:

Of all the challenges, this was the most real - it was all about the cooking and at the end of the hour, one guy wins and the other goes home because of his food. But when they announced swordfish, I wasn't thrilled. It's not something I work with on a daily basis. We tend to work with meat, but hey, you gotta go with it.

We had no warning that we were going to cook for the Iron Chefs instead of the three judges we had the entire time: [restaurateur Donatella Arpala, food writer Michael Ruhlman, and Bon Appetit restaurant editor Andrew Knowlton] But when I heard that, I was ecstatic. Chefs love being judged by other chefs.

I decided I wanted to show my versatility and cook dishes that would pay homage to their style of cooking. And it worked, for the most part.

Dana White - President and Co-founder of the UFC

I really can't believe that I haven't mentioned Dana White before! Not only is he Sly, but he brought us the exciting sport that many of us watch; the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

According to Wikipedia:

White has a background as an amateur boxer, but he later gave up as an active fighter and did not turn pro. In 1992, White established Dana White Enterprises in Las Vegas. He owned three gyms in the Las Vegas area, and using his experience in boxing he trained boxers and taught boxercise classes. He also promoted boxing events and managed boxers, eventually including mixed martial arts fighters as his clients.

As a manager for UFC fighters Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell, White learned that Semaphore Entertainment Group, the parent company of the UFC, was looking for a buyer for the UFC. White soon contacted Lorenzo Fertitta, a childhood friend, an executive at Station Casinos, and a former commissioner of the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Within a month Lorenzo Fertitta and his older brother Frank Fertitta III bought the UFC, with White installed as its president.[2] White currently owns 10% of Zuffa, LLC, the entity the Fertitta brothers created to own and manage the UFC.

The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pick Up Artists by Neil Strauss

I just got done reading The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pick Up Artists by Neil Strauss and I give it two SLY thumbs up!! If you're a single guy that is having confidence issues in the area of meeting women, this book is for you.

Here's a short summary of the book:

Neil Strauss, a writer for Rolling Stone and the NY Times, learns of an online society of pick up artists (PUAs) whose goals are to develop strategies and methods of picking up women. He then becomes a member of this society by the name of Style and pays to be mentored by Mystery, one of the god fathers of the community, only to later become what some consider to be the greatest pick up artist. This book is his story of how he went from being a short, balding, geeky writer to someone that could pick up amazingly hot women.

Why do I recommend this book?

This book is a great, true story of how a balding guy that doesn't have much confidence in himself is able to learn a few skills and transform his appearance to become the ultimate sly guy that single men look to be. One of the way he transforms himself is by shaving his head.

I think this book can be both an inspiration to some of the guys that come to this site and a beginning tutorial on how to meet women easier.

Jackie Earl Haley

There's a bald actor that has just received an Oscar nomination and his name is Jackie Earl Haley. When I first saw this on TV, I was thinking "where do I know that name from?" Just then the TV answered my question - he was Kelly Leak in the Bad News Bears.

Jackie had a really good run at acting as a child star and then slowly faded out of Hollywood and ended up starting his own production company - JEH Productions (http://www.jehproductions.com).

Though, in 2006, Jackie made a comeback to Hollywood, and did it in style - sly style!! He was in two movies, All the Kings Men and Little Children. His Oscar nomination is for his role in Little Children as Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role.

Way to go Jackie! It's great to see another bald guy become successful in Hollywood!

Two Bald Guys elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame

Two bald guys were elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame for the class of 2007; well sort of. Cal Ripken, who was sporting the slick dome look at press interviews sat along side of his fellow inductee, Tony Gwynn, who used to shave his head, but isn't currently sporting the look.

I want to send out a big congratulations to the two of these guys. Both of them are some of the best examples of how athletes should exemplify themselves and the type of dedication athletes should give to their teams. Both Gwynn and Ripken spent their entire careers with the same team and always went out and played their best. These are two class acts!

FutureWeapons - New show hosted by bald guy Richard "Mack" Machowicz

I don't know if there's more of a perfect show for SOME of the Sly Bald Guys. This show, FutureWeapons, showcases, well, weapons of the future. The show is hosted by Richard "Mack" Machowicz, one badass looking bald dude.

Here's blurb from Mack's bio:

Mack has over 20 years experience in the martial arts, studying such systems as muay thai boxing, Jeet Kune Do, kickboxing, aikido, jujitsu, savate, arnis and karate. Seth Godin, bald author extrordinaire

A couple days ago I was searching for the top blogs on the internet to get some example of what makes a successful blog. In my search, I ran across a blog by a bald man named Seth Godin. Seth's blog is called just that, "Seth's Blog" and can be viewed by going to http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/. The blog is about marketing, mostly web marketing, and is fairly entertaining due to Seth's witty style of writing.

Seth's accomplishments don't stop at Seth's Blog, they continue on with another blog called Liar's Blog and can be read by going to AllMarketersAreLiars.com. In this blog Seth even has a post about a "Geek Makeover" that is basically a VP of Microsoft shaving his head and dropping a few pounds. You can read the post here: Geek Makeover.

As you start to read Seth's blogs you can't help to notice that he's authored several books on marketing, one of them titled "All Marketers Are Liars" hence the reason he has the Liar's Blog. Two Bald Guys + Tailgating at Football Games = Best Job Ever!

Do you like football? Do you like tailgating? How about roadtrips? Well, these two bald guys are getting paid to do it all! That's right, their "job" is to RV around the country from football stadium to football stadium to tailgate. Sounds like a killer way to make money to me!

Jay DiEugenio (bald guy #1) and his wife Karen have grabbed their 3 kids and hit the road...literally. According to their website YourTailGateParty.com their mission is to hit all the NFL stadiums in 2 years travelling by RV. Last year they did the NFC stadiums and this year they are completing the trip by going to all of the AFC stadiums. Jay is the coordinator of the trip and is having a great time doing it.

Josh (bald guy #2) is the video guy behind the tour. Yes, there is a video guy! This is a huge production folks. Josh is the genius behind Havoc Productions and has the role to make Jay and Karen look cool during their tour.

Bruce Willis will be bald in the next Die Hard movie

With its cast finally filling up and the cameras rolling, the first pictures are starting to arrive from the set of Live Free Or Die Hard.

And while these arent exactly the snappiest, action-packed of shots (especially for photos taken during the filming of a big action set piece), they do offer an insight into Bruce Willis look for the fourth instalment of the franchise.

Bald Guy, Neal Wolkoff, on the cover of Forbes

Neal Wolkoff is trying to make the American Stock Exchange safe for investors again. Good luck.

Wolkoff, who has been on the job 18 months, aims to restore some of the Amex's damaged reputation by improving oversight of his freewheeling brokers and specialists and buying technology to make trades more efficient. Yet to keep the exchange chugging along, he needs to find lots more listings, and that means not being too picky about listing qualifications. "We can't guarantee the honesty of a company or that they will succeed," says Wolkoff. "But we can forcefully monitor them."
